THE ANALYSIS OF MULTICULTURALISM IN THE SCIENCE CURRICULUM: A PROPOSAL FOR INSERTION OF IORUBA COSMOGONY IN THE LESSONS OF BIOLOGY AND ASTRONOMY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The insertion of multiculturalism notions in education allows us the overcoming of an epistemological gap between Science and other knowledges generated in the context of specific cultures. In this work the objective was to analyze the multicultural approach of the curriculum and the Teacher’s Science Textbook from Sao Paulo State. It was concluded that although the analyzed material presents a multicultural approach, it is notable the lack of references to Black culture. Thus, it is suggested the inclusion of texts related to the myths of the Orixas as way of including Yoruba culture, an ethnic group of Black culture that has contributed to the formation of the Brazilian people, in the subjects of biology and astronomy. Therefore, in addition to insert a sub-Saharan African culture and Afro-Brazilian on the multicultural approaches, it is opened an opportunity of discussion in the discipline of Science on the themes related to intolerance towards religions of African origin.
