CROOKED LINES - EDUCATION FOR DIVERSITY AND ETHNIC-RACIAL ISSUE IN SCHOOLS IN THE NORTH REGION: BETWEEN VIRTUES AND VICES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Law nº 10.639/03, since it was enacted, has been leading to a new dynamic in schools. Urged on by legal requirements, managers and teachers have formulated alternatives to cope with the devices that introduced the themes of African history and African-Brazilian Culture in the curricula of elementary schools. The analysis of these initiatives show more than the view that these agents on the school have about the proposed thematic. It enables a singular framework of the school environment, their virtues and vices. From the analysis of six schools in four states in the North Region of Brazil, the paper demonstrates that improvisation and “good will” outweigh, by far, the investment in research and continuing education, to confront the racial and ethnic issue. The positive results, important for the students, do not hide the weakness of the initiatives.
