Abstract

Created in 2007, the More Education Program aims to expand the time for student permanence at schools through the provision of different activities, including capoeira. This article, based on the analysis of three documents/texts: the Operational Manual of Integral Education, the material on Heritage Education and the book Fight, capoeira and corporal practices of adventure, discusses the meanings attributed to capoeira by PME and, to what extent, these senses dialogue with the appreciation movement of Afro-Brazilian history and culture in the school space. We conclude that, despite recognizing capoeira as a cultural heritage, there is in the PME documents an over-representation of the aspect that values the sport aspects of the demonstration, a situation that does not contribute to the implementation of Law 10639/03.
