Abstract

The article discusses the participation of undergraduate students from the Federal District and the Central West region of the Science without Borders (SwB) Program, in the exchange for the United States between 2012 and 2015. The objective of this study was to construct a socioeconomic and linguistic profile of these students at the intersection of gender, race and class. By identifying the profile of SwB scholarship holders, the study sheds light on the historical gaps in Brazilian basic education, which reflect unequal schooling between men and women, white and black, poor and rich. The data collection was done through a virtual questionnaire sent to participants of the Program in the USA, listed on the official website of the Scholarships for the World. A sample of 1,283 students from the five regions was obtained. The analysis of the answers was supported by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, and it was verified that the Center-West presented a panorama of greater equity of class and race, commensurate with the best social conditionalities of DF scholars.
