Abstract

This article aims to present community cultural education as a didactic-pedagogical alternative for valuing black culture in the community of Mazagão Velho-AP, based on the São Tiago mirim festival. It focuses on the experiences of Mazagans in the space/school/cultural center Raízes do Marabaixo, which has a connection with community, identity and educational learning processes. The approach used was qualitative research. The results highlight the community's efforts to protect and pass on inherited cultural heritage from generation to generation, as well as highlighting the role of children, men and women who, through orality, preserve the culture of their ancestors, as well as contributing to the implementation of Law 10.639/2003.
