AFFIRMATIVE ACTIONS, QUOTA LAW AND PERMANENCE OF INDIGENOUS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This report is the result of a conference given by the indigenous-researcher Suliete Gervásio Monteiro, during the 11th Anniversary of NEABI-UENF (from November 3rd to 10th, 2021). It brings her experience based on her experiences at the University of Brasilia (UnB) and her formative trajectory in an indigenous school. The author presents the challenges faced both for access and for her permanence in this public university: prejudice, lack of incentive and access to other public policies in the face of the specific demands of indigenous peoples and traditional populations. Despite the importance of reparation policies and access to ethno-racial quotas in universities, the text allows us to reflect on the challenges and potentialities of the presence of indigenous students, the exchange of knowledge and confrontation of structural racism in the educational and political arena.
