PROCESSES FOR SUBJECTIVATION OF PERIPHERAL YOUTHS: RECOGNITION, HIP-HOP CULTURE, AND EVERYDAY LIFE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research attempted to analyze the processes of subjectivation and recognition of peripheral youth through hip-hop culture. Oral history was the research methodology employed to interview three young people who identified with the hip-hop culture: two were from the Brasilândia district (north) and one from the Vila Madalena neighborhood (west); both areas part of the city of São Paulo. The analyzed data showed that the peripheral youth - as a full category of diversities, meanings, and definitions - use art as affective and social mediations in their daily life, providing them with an avenue for human development and social learning. Therefore, art is taken as a way of resisting social inequalities and a space to manifest and expose ideas, conflicts, and desires, as well as a means of positioning themselves politically and territorially, serving as a reference for other young people.
