Abstract

Francophony has been claimed as a way of cultural cohabitation, respect to diversity, and solidarity among peoples. The act 10.639/2003 ensures that History of Africa and Afro-Brazilian Culture must be taught in all disciplines in the Brazilian school curriculum in middle schools and high schools. Teaching materials containing cultural elements can contribute to promote education for ethnic-racial relations in teaching French as a Foreign Language. This research examines how teaching culture related to francophony and the act 10.639/2003 can foster a kind of teaching that also aims to educate for ethnic-racial relations. This research, characterized as an action research with an interpretative approach, was conducted in the environment of a public Language Center and as we conclude it, we hope to contribute for some reflection on the inclusion of culture in language teaching as an element that ignites reflection, debates, individual growth, builds new social prospects and also deconstructs values related to race and racism as they are framed in our environment.
