SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE TERRITORY AND IDENTITIES MAKONDE: ANALYSIS OF THE MEDIATING DYNAMICS OF THE CULTURAL/ARTISTIC PRODUCTION OF THE MAKONDE FROM MOZAMBIQUE
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this article is to understand the dynamics of the Mapiko Dance, starting from a research that presents a set of reflections on the social construction of the territory and the identities of the group called Makonde from Mozambique, from the analysis of products carved in wood denominated by its creators of Makonde Art. The research involved the following procedures: empirical data collection in Mueda, non-participant observation, besides counting on the construction of field diaries, semi-structured interviews with a non-random sample of informants. We analyse qualitative data, including the narratives about the production of masks and dance in traditional ceremonies. The Mapiko dance is perceived as an illustration of the Makonde group, located on the Mueda plateau in Mozambique, in which the masked dancer is the main element.
