Abstract

It analyzes the traditional and academic knowledge related to health in black communities located in the Marajó archipelago of  the Amazon region,  state of Para, observing that health/disease relations are treated, from the point of view of traditional medicine as well as the traditional knowledge that accumulate ritual practices that integrate indigenous influences, catholicism, kardecism and african matrix religions. They point out that, besides knowledge and patrimonies, also are configured by the forests, bypaths, tracks, rivers and streams, among others. However, the mention to shamans or healers and their knowledge as local riches, show the importance that these subjects and their knowledge have for the cultural and material reproduction of the communities.
