Abstract

Most presence of black in Brazilian higher education has been presented in different dimensions: the reduction of inequalities, with a greater numerical presence in undergraduate and graduate, and most ethnic and racial diversity observed in higher education in recent decades. It happens because of the entry of hitherto under-represented groups, such as blacks and indigenous people, who bring to the academic space other cultures, demands and study questions. This work explores the dimension of inequality, from the analysis of the results of the Demographic Census of 2000 and 2010, provided by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). We evaluate, in addition to information on access to undergraduate and graduate, data on high school, the last stage of basic education and prerequisite for access to higher education. How much the lower presence of blacks in higher education due to failure to complete high school?
