Abstract

This article is part of a qualitative research that investigates whether samba can be used in the teaching of Geography, and whether this practice can contribute to the implementation of Law No. 10639/03 in schools. It is hypothesized that samba, which is an expression connected to black cultures (re) built in Brazil, can appear in the teaching of Geography as a curricular tool. However, would the use of samba in the Geography curriculum be a way to comply with the principles of the Law? In this perspective, besides the bibliographical and documentary research, this study counted on the empirical investigation in which semi-structured questionnaires were applied in a group of students of the 6th year of primary education of two public schools located in two municipalities of Rio de Janeiro State: Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias. The collected data (corpus) were analyzed by the methodology of the Discourse of the Collective Subject (DSC).
