Abstract

The present article is the partial result of a research of survey, organization and systematization of quantitative data about the students’ performance that allow a evaluative reflection on the functioning of the racial quota system adopted by the Universidade do Estado da Bahia – UNEB, since 2002, as an affirmative action policy for entry into the university through the college entrance examination. We focus in the academic trajectory of two groups: a racial quotas student group and a group with no racial quotas students which concluded their undergraduate degrees in 2008, 2009 and 2010. We chose, initially, a sampling of undergraduate courses presents in three campuses of UNEB, divided between courses of higher and lower social prestige. The result of the study indicates that there is no significant performance difference between the racial quotas students and the others throughout the period studied, although there is a recommendation of preventive attention in the courses with higher social prestige, because, in general, independently of the racial quotas, there is a perform on the limit of the mean.
