Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this work is observe how the social identities of race are represented (MOITA LOPES, 2002; HALL, 2006) in the textbooks of English language and how the textbook may contribute to the ratification or deconstruction of racism. For such, was necessary, through a bibliographical research and content analysis, realize if the ethnic-racial issues are worked in textbook and how the identities of race are being represented. The reviewed book was the first of the series LINKS, for the sixth grade of elementary school. The collection LINKS was approved by the PNLD in 2011 and distributed in the public system schools in the state of Paraná. In the analysis, the focus was on the images. The book brings figures of black characters and personalities without addressing discussions on racial-ethnic issues, thus the textbook does not create a debate on racism, the opposite to the proposal of the official documents.
