THE FEAR THAT THE BLACKS COME TO SCHOOL: REFUSAL OF RIGHT TO EDUCATION IN BRAZIL
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to retrace from its origins, the exclusion of the black population of the Brazilian school. The refusal of the State to provide school for the black population must be sought in fear of slave rebellions in the nineteenth century and, later, the scientific racist theories that gave security to the uselessness of school for this population. The article discusses the hypothesis that the specific configuration that racial prejudice in Brazil took in the twentieth century, under cover of the myth of racial democracy, maintains sense relations with the Brazilian state of indifference toward public education.
