Abstract

Based on a literature review, this paper intends to understand if play can contribute to racial-ethnic
identification and discuss the importance of these guidelines in Preschool Education. Works published
between 2003 and 2022 were consulted in the databases: Electronic Journals in Psychology (PEPSIC),
Scielo and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). The research worked seven
studies (including articles, dissertations and theses) and evolved into a qualitative and quantitative
discussion, showing what would be a consensus among scholars on the subject and other relevant
information about how play influences the formation of racial identity, also recalling the various
possibilities of playful resources present at school and verify if they can be facilitators of the
constitution of positive self-image for black children.
Keywords: ethnic-racial identity; play; preschool education; developmental psychology.
