CHALLENGES FOR BLACK WOMEN TO FACE INEQUALITIES IN UNDERGRADUATE COURSES AT THE SÃO CARLOS SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main objective of this article is to understand, based on a qualitative research, the main difficulties faced by black students in undergraduate courses in Engineering at the São Carlos School of Engineering of the University of São Paulo (EESC-USP). Despite the fact that the access of Brazilian minority groups to higher education has been increasing over the years, it is still necessary to analyse these changes from a more critical perspective, especially regarding the access of black women to higher education. Based on bibliographical research, for black women the main inequalities found were: economic, social and family profiles; presence and performance in higher education and in undergraduate courses in Engineering. In the results, after showing the particularities of these inequalities, challenges are proposed for black women to face these situations and feelings such as demotivation, not belonging and low self-esteem.
