Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this article is to present a descriptive analysis of young black people from the Metropolitan Area of Curitiba expectations’ about entering Higher Education. The expectations were identified in the socioeconomic questionnaire for the 2013 National High School Exam (ENEM). The variable microdata chosen from this survey is related to the students’ profiles, the conclusion  of high school, and the reasons for participating in the exam. The results indicated that 25.2% of ENEM participants self-declared themselves as black and brown, and 70.6% self-declared themselves as white. The most relevant reason to take the ENEM, both for black (85.6%) and for white young people (85.9%), was to have access to Higher Education. However, between the expectations of access to Higher Education and the access itself, there is a long path that is very different for black and white young people.
