BIOLOGICAL RACISM IN THE NURSING FORMATION: IMPLICATIONS IN TEACHING-CARE OF THE HEALTH OF BLACK POPULATION

Abstract

This study aims to present the identification of biological racism in the context of nursing education and explain how it has been keeping this ideology in education with implications for health care of the black population. Descriptive exploratory study with qualitative approach that had as an analytical orientation the theory of comprehensive sociology. Through theoretical framework sought to know the professionalization of nursing in Brazil. The collection of field research data occurred through various techniques and in different historical moments. Among the data collection techniques, in order to know the learning of care and teach care of black patients, there were interviews with open questions and application of a questionnaire of professional profile identification with sixteen (16) professional nursing teachers and nurses from a Nursing College in the Mato Grosso State. We analyzed this information through the thematic content analysis technique. The biological racism present in nursing education has provided inconsistencies in the evaluation of the binomial health/disease and therefore have an unfavorable impact on care of members of the black population. We must to reframe and build other epistemological bases for training professionals in health and nursing.
