(ETHNO) AFRICAN SCIENCE: AN EPISTEMOLOGY FROM THE THOUGHT OF THE DOGON PEOPLE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ethnoscience is understood in this text as one of the main points for the legitimation of an epistemology of knowledge which has been proposed based on practices and knowledge produced by people who have been and still are subordinated by Western thought. The attempt to surpass the vision of science from a Eurocentric perspective, this text aims to reflect on the knowledge produced by African men and women, especially the Dogon people, who inhabit the region of the central plateau of Mali, in Western Africa. From a qualitative approach, the text uses as strategies of approximation with reality, the bibliographic review and the written self-reported life experiences as empowerment and resistance from the meeting of three African researchers and a Brazilian one. Results show the necessity to share facts, knowledge, and truths about Africa and its people, which are simply ignored over time.
