IN BLACK INK: EDUCATION, TEACHING AND THE TRAJECTORY OF PRETEXTATO DOS PASSOS E SILVA IN THE IMPERIAL COURT – NEW EVIDENCES

Abstract
Pretextato dos Passos e Silva has become an important figure in historiography in recent years. His notoriety is due to the fact that he acted as a teacher of an school exclusively for black and brown boys located in the Court during the second half of the XIX century, educational initiative that fomented new looks on the possibilities of access to the education by the segments linked to the slavery in the context of the Brazilian empire. In spite of all the attention aroused around him, not much is known about his trajectory. In order to contribute in this case, the present article intends not only to mention already known elements of his journey, but to indicate some discoveries about his person. Finally, new research paths are pointed out, which can serve as future research directions.
