Abstract

The present work is a brief theoretical reflection on the oral traditions of the African peoples and their institution among Afro-Brazilians, to know its manifestation and propagation. Because orality is a significant action for the African population, we consider relevant to reflect on its use in the preservation and diffusion of the African legacy, as well as perceive its institution in Brazil. Using a generic approach on the continent due to its extension, diversity and wealth we try to identify orality as a method of transmitting knowledge. Therefore, it is a synthetic investigation about the oral traditions originating in Africa and its establishment on Brazilian soil, merging the two cultures, and also present in the religions of African matrix, such as Candomblé. We confer with this the relevance of the word spoken for these people.
