Those narratives circumscribe problems experienced in the region called Baixada Maranhense and also in the metropolitan region of São Luís. A critique of the instrumentalist perspective of the use of natural resources is identified with an emphasis on ecological imbalances and damage from real governmental projects, agribusiness, construction of ports and oil refineries etc.
