Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of the role that the black women played in the post-abolition. The reason is because the history of black men - even more the black women - , is a subject little explored by researchers about this period, showing the necessity of a refined study on various aspects of the history from the perspective of the black men and the black women. Added to it the association that is made between their stories and the slavery. This is because, with the advent of the First Republic, in a context marked by post-abolition, the main focus, these individuals become secondary, and also are denied to then the paper of “producer of a specific story.” If there are few studies related to race in this historical period, when added to gender, the connections between these two categories are uncommon. Therefore, our attempt is to bring elements about the role which black women exercised in the past, and that somehow, is present is today.
