THE TRANSGRESSION OF RACISM CROSSING BORDERS: CRITICAL STUDIES OF WHITENESSE, BRAZIL AND THE UNITED STATES IN THE STRUGGLE FOR RACIAL JUSTICE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article uses Critical Whiteness Studies to deconstruct White supremacy. It examines how racism is pervasive across international state borders. It proposes anti-racist education. The term “multicultural education” is problematic as people think there is a special recipe to issues of racial conflict. Thus the article compares and contrast racial underpinnings between Brazil and United States, as far as Affirmative Action, related to the implementation of quotas as an educational alternative. It presents historical analyses about the power and domination of white colonization and its effects today, in regards to the conquering of sociocommunitarian rights of Afro-Brazilians and Afro-Americans, in relation to education and other civil rights. In conclusion, the article proposes surrounding elements, regarding affirmative action, in the areas of curriculum and educational politics.
