A BLACK REFORMER IN BRAZIL IN THE 19TH CENTURY: THE CASE STUDY OF ANDRÉ PINTO REBOUÇAS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyzes the intellectual and political position of André Pinto Rebouças (1838-1898) in the agenda of social reforms that would allow black and immigrant people access to education and land during the second half of the 19th century. The main historiographic contributions are: i) to bring to the debate the crossings of race and racism in the study of intellectual trajectories; ii) from a decolonial epistemic perspective, showing forms of resistance and social reconfiguration in a territory marked by modern slavery. The main sources used were personal diaries, articles published in newspapers, as well as correspondence.
