Abstract

The article presents and discusses ways of approaching the figure of African and Latin American scientists in the segments of Elementary School II and High School. Based on the “Apaoká Method”, we developed strategies to diversify the image of the producer of science, which often refers to a white European man. We will discuss the importance and usefulness of inserting the perspectives of the history of science in the approaches of school contents, questioning how much they still retain colonial and Eurocentric references that hinder the identification of young black Latin Americans or Africans with the figures of scientists. Then, we will discuss strategies that instrumentalize the approach of the figure of these women scientists in the discipline of History, taking as a suggestion for such initiatives the trajectory of the scientist, writer and activist Lélia Gonzalez.
