Abstract

This work aims to address racial inequality in issues of access to public water supply for the black population in the Rua Nova neighborhood, in Feira de Santana-Bahia, and analyze it from the perspective of environmental racism. It is a qualitative approach research with research techniques defined in order to meet your problem, as well as achieve your goals. Therefore, a bibliographic survey, semi-structured interviews, Participant Observation and analysis of the collected data were carried out. The arguments presented by the residents of the neighborhood about the provision of public water supply services corroborate the differentiation in the conditions of treatment of the public company with the poor and majority black population. The environmental racism in Rua Nova in relation to access to the public water supply service was evidenced, by revealing the perception of residents regarding the attitudes taken by the state-owned company, which must offer a quality service without discrimination.

Luiz Roberto Santos Moraes, Universidade Federal da Bahia

Graduado em Engenharia Civil pela Escola Politécnica da Universidade Federal da Bahia (1973), com especialização em Engenharia Sanitária e em Engenharia de Segurança do Trabalho pela Faculdade de Saúde Pública da Universidade de São Paulo (1974), mestrado em Engenharia Sanitária pela Delft University of Technology-NE (1977) e doutorado em Saúde Ambiental pela University of London-UK (1996). Fez estágio pós-doutoral em Gestão de Saneamento Básico na Universidade do Minho-PT (2005), em Saneamento Ambiental e Saúde na Universitat de Barcelona-ES (2013-2014) e na Universidade de Lisboa-PT (2021), em Política e Gestão de Resíduos Sólidos no Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo-PT (2017) e em PPP de Abastecimento de Água e Esgotamento Sanitário na Universidade da Beira Interior-PT (2019-2020). Professor Titular em Saneamento (aposentado) e Participante Especial (voluntário de 2011-2021) do Mestrado em Meio Ambiente, Águas e Saneamento-MAASA da Escola Politécnica, do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Saúde, Ambiente e Trabalho-PPgSAT da Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia e da Residência Profissional em Arquitetura, Urbanismo e Engenharia-RAU+E da Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Foi editor da Revista Eletrônica Gestão e Tecnologias Ambientais-GESTA, da UFBA, UFRB, UEFS, UCoimbra-PT e UMinho-PT (2013-2020), membro atual de seu Conselho Consultivo, membro do Conselho Editorial Científico da Revista Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental-ABES e da Revista Engenharia Civil/Civil Engineering da UMinho-PT. Um dos fundadores do Grupo Ambientalista da Bahia-GAMBÁ (1982). Tem trabalhado na área de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental, com ênfase em Saneamento Ambiental, principalmente, nos campos do saneamento ambiental, saúde ambiental e política, gestão e planejamento de saneamento básico.
