THE PATH OF BLACK AND BLACK YOUNG PEOPLE AT THE UNIVERSITY: CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the trajectory of schooling of black and black youths, approved by the racially-based place reservation system, at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Alegre campus. We assume that the university is a space rich in research opportunities, in the production of scientific knowledge, but socioeconomic origins and racial inequality interpose different trajectories for black and white students (GOMES, 2007). Therefore, we propose a case study. The development of the research revealed that the trajectory of these young people was marked by discriminatory processes, linked to socioeconomic difficulties. Furthermore, it showed that affirmative policies were extremely important for students to have access to higher education, constituting a possibility for confronting racism in Brazilian society.
