Résumé

This article aims to be reading key to the essay of Jean-Paul Sartre Black Orpheus (1948). Much has been said of the famous essay by the French philosopher about racism, but something that is certainly present in Sartre's reading, and that was neglected is the place of the look as an element of identity - central category to existentialism. Such a way that we tried to establish here the role of the concept in the historical course that were constituted the Sartre’s analyzes and its implications for the reading of the objectified problem by the philosopher.
