Peer Review Process

  1. Peer Review: The review and approval of contributions to the Journal of ABPN will be done by peers, with proven authority on the topics presented in the submissions.
  2. Anonymous Evaluation: The system of anonymous evaluation (Double-blind review) is adopted to analyze contributions, with at least two reviewers, according to the evaluation criteria of the Journal of ABPN.

Received originals go through four steps:

  1. Submission to plagiarism and self-plagiarism control programs: the objective is to verify the originality of the text.
  2. Prior evaluation by the Editorial Committee: the Committee judges the adequacy of the texts to the editorial line of the journal; the publication standards established by it; and the quality of the work, i.e. its publication potential.
  3. Double blind process: if they undergo this initial screening, the texts will be sent to be evaluated for merit by experts in the field.
  4. Final decision: the opinions issued will be analyzed by the Editorial Committee, which will give a final decision issuing a consolidated opinion.

Submissions in the form of interviews, essays and reviews are evaluated by the Editorial Committee, which will decide on the relevance of its publication, according to the objectives of each section and demands of the journal.

  1. When submitting papers, the authors are notified by the editor about receipt of the original. Authors are contacted again when the editor has her/his opinion, based on the opinions issued by the reviewers. In the case of approved papers with minor modifications, the contact between editor and authors continues until the paper is rewritten according to the requirements of the opinions issued. All authors are notified of the final decision regarding the submitted text. Finally, in due course, the authors of approved papers are notified of the edition in which the text will be made public.

Guidelines for Peer Reviewers

Evaluators respond to the following Online Evaluation Form. Nonetheless it can be accessed offline by clicking here.

The evaluation will consider the following criteria: contribution to the scope of the Journal of ABPN; originality of the theme and/or treatment given to the theme; argumentative consistency; rigor of the theoretical-methodological approach; overall quality of the text. The reviewers may accept the papers fully, accept requesting rewording or reject the papers. Either hypothesis is justified by a descriptive opinion. When the two referees refuse the work, the paper is returned to the author. When both reviewers accept the work, it goes to the next phase. Finally, when one or both referees request reformulations, the work is returned to the author, requesting that the opinions be considered, and a paper be reformulated within thirty days. When the author resubmits the reformulated text, as suggested by the reviewers, it is reevaluated and goes to the final phase.

If the arbitrators submit dissenting opinions, or if for any other reason the editors deem it necessary, the paper will be sent to a third arbitrator.

From the opinions, editors may decide:

Accept the submitted paper: as is or with slight modifications;

Publish with modifications: From the date of submission of the opinions by the editor, the author will have up to 30 days to answer and comment on the reformulations suggested by the referees and/or editors, specifying in detail how each suggestion was or was not implemented. These modifications should be restricted to those made by the referees and/or editors. In situations that, without justification, the author takes longer than the deadline for rewording, the paper will be automatically rejected. Publishers reserve the right not to publish the work if the reworkings do not meet the requirements without convincing justification.

Reject: The paper will not be published by the Journal of ABPN.

The version of the approved paper, generated in the composition, layout and specialized review instances of Portuguese and foreign language, is sent to the authors for approval;

There is no deadline for submitting papers for publication in regular editions, whose flow of receiving and processing is continuous. When reviewed and edited, papers are published in chronological order of completion. If there is more than one paper finalized for publication by the same author, the Journal of ABPN will publish only one paper in the issue or editions respecting the interval of 6 months and excepting the case of Dossiers, according to the flow of papers submitted for evaluation. For the editions of Thematic Notebooks there are specific call for papers widely disseminated to the community.

In the last issue of each volume, a complete list is published with the names of all the reviewers who collaborated with the magazine throughout the year.
