AGE AND RACE AS MARKERS TO THINK ABOUT CHILDHOOD
Main Article Content
Abstract
The central objective of the discussion was to reflect on the categories of age and race as important markers of difference to think about some aspects that influence the experiences of being a child and black in Brazil. The study was analyzed by UNICEF reports on the situation of children in the country. We articulate as a theoretical reference the studies in the field of Ethnic-Racial Relations, the Sociology of Childhood and the Approach to Rights. The social indicators found point to the serious social problems that affect black children and to change this scenario we need public policies and specific programs seeking to join efforts to eradicate these injustices that are based on structural racism and, for this to happen, we also need to know and monitor the situation that black children experience in their childhoods.
