MORE MEDICAL DOCTORS PROGRAM TO BRAZIL: A CASE STUDY IN MAROON COMMUNITIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
The More Medical Doctors Program for Brazil aims to provide Brazilian and foreign professionals to work in towns of difficult access and high socioeconomic vulnerability, and establishes the Maroons groups as a priority. This article analyzes how the program has contributed to primary health care in maroon communities of the Northeast and North of the country, through a qualitative research in two communities in Rio Grande do Norte State and one in Pará State. Were conducted focus groups with users of the Basic Units of Health and semi-structured interviews with doctors, health professionals from the Basic Units of Health teams, managers of Municipal Health, local health counselors and local leaders. We conclude that the More Medical Doctors contributed in ensuring access to health care in the communities studied. The permanence of doctors in the cities made possible the development of preventive actions, health promotion and the establishment of a connection with users.
