CANTAGALO: SLAVE VALLEY AND LARGE FARMS

Abstract
In the second half of the 19th century, the city of Cantagalo, located in fluminense center, was at the height of the expansion of coffee farming. The enslaved population, with the predominance of central africans, dealt with the changes of the period: from living in the fields with the immigrant worker to facing overseers and masters. The end of the 19th century, with the abolition of slavery and the decline of coffee farming, presented this population with new perspectives
