Abstract

The land ownership situation in the quilombola territories is dramatic in Brazil. This study intends, through the survey and synthesis of data and theoretical reflections, to argue that non-regularization, non-protection and conflicts in quilombola territories are inserted in the power relationship established from the constitution of contemporary capitalism. For that, some cases are brought to the State of Bahia, such as the fishing quilombos of Rio dos Macacos, Dom João, Graciosa and São Franscisco do Paraguaçu. Structural racism is undoubtedly the most important explanatory element for the non-protection of quilombola territories.
