Abstract

In the last decades, have been presented different modes of discourse analysis to the social sciences and language studies as a theoretical and methodological possibility to generate understandings of institutions, social groups and social identities. This article aims to reflect about the contributions that such studies have been offering for understanding of contemporary issues, proposing, also, some paths from which specifically ethno-racial issues may be understood in a discursive journey of research. For such, we will review specifically the analysis of enunciative speech (Rocha and Deusdará, 2006; Rocha, 2006), the critical discourse analysis (Fairclough, 1999; 2001; van Dijk, 2008) and interactional sociolinguistics, with its ramifications in intercultural approaches (Gumperz, 1982), the social stigma (Goffman, 1988) and narrative analysis (Bastos, 2008; Bastos and Biar, 2015). The focus of this review lies on the different theoretical assumptions, methodological ways, potential and limitations of approaches's analysis.
