It is an exploratory, descriptive and documentary research whose objective was to analyze the representations attributed to the black person in comparison to the white, in the illustrations of a didactic book of Portuguese Language. For this purpose, the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program was used to obtain the quantitative data and the Content Analysis for the treatment of qualitative data. Once the analysis procedures were done, it was possible to verify that the characters found were mostly white, and that the black characters were underrepresented, that is, they were found in a stigmatized way, in conditions of poverty and poverty. In addition, it was common to see that black characters appeared in the minority as far as family relations, professions, or school activity were concerned, compared to white characters.
