Abstract
This text intended to problematize the invention of the Negro in west as well as to black cultural resistance and negociations. From the point of view of history, it was sought to trace the way in which colonial representations of the Negro were performed in modernity. It was also found that against stereotypies, the black cultural expressions affirmed through intercultural exchanges their arts, religion and music. I argue that these expressions constituted a cultural basis that favored the emergence of an aesthetic autonomy, a response to racism and the revival of cultural ties with Africa
