RETERRITORIALIZATION, ENVIRONMENTAL CONFLICTS AND HEALTH IN MAROON COMMUNITIES OF SERGIPE

Abstract
The relationship between the development models and its impacts, positive and negative, on traditional communities in Brazil point to the need for analysis of the socio-spatial dimension, especially environmental conflicts and their impact on the health of the populations involved. The objective of this article is to describe the major conflicts involving environmental injustice and health in the maroon communities of the state of Sergipe. The cases analyzed were identified by electronic means in Conflict Map Involving Environmental Health and Justice in Brazil. Six environmental conflicts involving maroon communities have been identified. The main environmental impacts refers to the change in traditional land use system and the problems in the demarcation of territories. Violence, food insecurity and mental disorders are some of the health impacts of the populations involved in these conflicts.
