MAROONS AND MAROON PEOPLE IN MATO GROSSO

Abstract
This article discuss the issue of maroons’ territories in Mato Grosso and the education in these communities. Are the same marked by a diversity of forms of territorial occupation, since, currently, many of these communities have their land shared with other social segments, such as squatters, land grabbers, settlers, among others, configuring, therefore, a conflicting picture in the search for guarantee the right to land. There are few historical studies on the Maroons in Mato Grosso, configuring a gap in Mato Grosso historiography on these traditional communities. Regarding education in the communities studied, we found that most do not have schools in their territories, being necessary to move to other places in search of schooling.
