Abstract

This research examines how magazine journalism has shown  the image of black women in its pages.  Using discourse analysis, the study investigates issues of two widely-distributed national magazines, Marie Claire and Claudia, between October 2007 and March 2008. In contemporary societies, the press has become a space of great relevance, where the discourse being used becomes a path for trying to understand the social reality in question.  In the end, the discourse of the press emerges as a site where racial and gender inequalities in Brazil are constructed and reproduced.
