RACE AND DE-TERRITORIALIZATION: A PROPOSAL OF GEOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

Abstract
This essay analyses the African Diaspora as a geographic object from the cultural perspective and from the point of view the concept of de-territorialization. Aspects of the reality of black people in Brazil and in the world are linked to the formation process of an international racial identity. In the first part, “A geographical analysis of Afro-Brazilian diasporic identity”, the concepts of nation and deterritorialization are explained, and the perspective of Cultural Geography is used to analyze the African Diaspora from these geographical theoretical instruments. In the second, "African diaspora: black politics”, the global race theory, the African Diaspora and the concepts of race are characterized, aiming to conceptualize the African Diaspora in the global context. Lastly, “Black men and black women in Brazil: recognition and re-signification”, aspects of black identity in Brazil are characterized, considering the specific and common aspects of this identity.
