Abstract

The article seeks to discuss aspects of Afro-Brazilian women’s literature which have gained enormous notoriety within the panorama of the acclaimed Afro-Brazilian literature. It highlights the singularity of black women writer’ discourses which are grounded on black women’s experiences. Transforming that into amalgam for the creation of poetic and fictional texts, these writers construct black characters and plots which contrast with the so-called “Brazilian literature.” That includes Women’s Literature in which the presence of black characters with complex subjectivities and intricate human actions rarely occurs. If at all present, they are relegated to the narrative´s background, and depicted negatively in stereotyped stories.
