Abstract

In this article, I examine the experience of exercising autonomy and the afro-equatorial territory. It focuses on the right to ancestral territory, which has become one of the main political demands for the Afro-Equatorial people since the 90s. In South America, the experience of defense, use and appropriation of the afro-descendant territory has taken place in countries such as Colombia and Brazil. Through legal mechanisms in those regions, the state has granted Afro-descendants the collective property of their ancestral lands our over the geographical areas that have been historically populated by them. In that territory, Afro-descendants have reproduced their culture and developed political propositions for the development, government and autonomous administration of natural resources.
