Abstract
The paper discusses the relations of hegemony, domination and subordination through the perspective of media culture, focusing on the presence of a TV news black reporter in the main television station in Rio Grande do Sul. The discussion is based on the theoretical and methodological contribution by Kellner (2001), known as Diagnostic Critique. This paper analyzes a series of TV news reports on the removal of poor families from the center of Porto Alegre – capital city of Rio Grande do Sul. It is observed that the singling out of the was intended to cover part of the socially marginalized audience, via a discourse of inclusion of these people in the journalistic agenda, using this presence/representation so as the audience recognizes and identifies itself with the product displayed.
