PAULO FREIRE'S WORKD AND THE DEBATE ON GENDER AND RACE: APPROACHES AND POSSIBILITIES OF DIALOGUE
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article, I discuss the possible approximations between Paulo Freire's work and the themes of gender and race, inspired mainly by the text of bell hooks on the influence of the Brazilian educator in her personal and professional life. Starting from the reading of some books of Paulo Freire, I discuss the sexist language in his work, the author's manifestations about the social movements of gender and race, and the role played by them. Finally, I make a brief presentation of the chapter dedicated to the Brazilian educator in the book "Teaching to transgress: education as practice of freedom" (1994), of bell hooks. I write this article in order to constitute itself as an analytical effort that intends to collaborate for the expansion of the field of analysis of Paulo Freire’s academic production, recognizing his commitment to a liberating education that really reaches everyone.
