Abstract

The present article originated from research developed through a partnership between the Núcleo de Pesquisa em Design e Estudos Interdisciplinares and Núcleo de Estudos Afro-Brasileiros, both from Alagoas Federal Institute.  It aims to present the concept of etnodesign as a theoretical framework to the process of plastic composition in Interior Design. It searches to analyze the plasticity of visual elements with an afrobrazilian concept, it means: objects that were produced with an African basis to which an original Brazilian aesthetic pattern was added. To allow a visual reading of these objects some Gestalt parameters are taken to describe the representation and mainly the meaning of these objects as long as they are inserted in some interior spaces. The methodological procedure used here was founded basically in the iconographic analysis and plastic description of some interior spaces where the use of afrobrazilian elements are highlighted in their conception according to the theoretical guidelines that emerge from the concept of etnodesign itself, however, avoiding to take them from specific black places as terreiros de candomblé to contribute for the universalization of afrobrazilian material production or design. The preliminary results tend to the concretization of etnodesign as a theoretical-methodological and ethnic affirmation tool.
