Abstract

The processes of erasure produced by patriarchy, sexism, racism and colonialism highlight the main violations and intersectional violence that exist in the daily lives of black women in Brazil. The naturalization of these oppressions in the experiences of black women marked a specific place for black women in Brazilian society. The objective of this study was to understand the daily lives of vulnerable black women based on the repercussions of racial, gender and social class. This is a qualitative study, guided by the Life History approach, with the participation of six peripheral black women from a municipality in Pernambuco. The interviews were carried out between January and March 2022. The narratives were treated using the Thematic Analysis method where two central themes emerged: (1) The scenarios of intersectional oppressions: Scenarios of identities; Scenarios of sexual harassment and violence; Care and Family Scenarios. (2) Scenarios of resistance to exist. The participants' narratives reveal the influence of racial, gender and class issues in their lives, marked by violence and erasure. The colonial whitening project distances them from self-recognition, generating alienating experiences. Despite violence, women resist and give new meaning to their trajectories through caring for themselves and the community, seeking protection and recognition strategies as active subjects in social transformation. It is necessary to deepen studies on the black population, especially women, and incorporate the theory of intersectionality into academic training to deal with inequalities and exclusions.
