Abstract

The article aims to study the maroon’s problems (from the academic studies to the social movements) which have become a wide agencement vector and reflection about the racial question in Brazil with impacts in the public policies on access to land, citizenship and education. The article focuses on the history (and the historiography) of the maroon societies, from its principal explanatory matrices. The article also approaches the rural black communities and the maroons’ remnants, emphasizing their memories, mobilizations, demands, idealizations, educational expectations and new meanings in the Brazilian racial imaginary.
