Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the racial representation of Brazilian democracy, metaphorized in the years of implementation of the military dictatorship through beauty pageants. This is a magnified reflection of the thesis "The Renaissance, place of blacks in the plural: social identity constructions in a black club in Rio de Janeiro". The analysis was constructed from interviews with black men and women who attended the Club Renaissance, in the decades of fifties and sixties. This is a search in progress within the Brazilian Center, Latin American and Caribbean studies in race relations, gender, and social movements (N'BLAC), Federal University of Cariri (UFCA).
